Shipping Rules

Path: Setup > Shipping > Carriers and Methods > Shipping Rules

Priority: Optional

Many companies use a combination of carriers, usually USPS for low weight shipments and UPS or FedEx for the higher weight packages. You can configure CMS to automatically select the best method for shipping based on weight. This works for both manually-entered and imported orders. When your Best Method choice is selected in Order Entry, each package’s shipping method will be automatically set based on the rules you’ve set up.

Best Shipping Tab

·     Use "Best Shipping Rules" - when using "Best Shipping Rule" method

Select this check box to begin defining your "best shipping" rules.

·     Max Weight

Enter the upper limit of each weight range.

·     Shipping Method

Select the applicable ship method.

There is no limit to the number of tiers you can configure.

After you’ve defined your rules, you’ll need to create a new shipping method that uses that rule. Follow the steps in Defining shipping methods in Setup using the following settings:

·      For the Hotkey/Code use "B" for "Best"

·      Under Select Shipper (right side of the window) select "Other."

·      Under Select Service Level  select "Best Shipping Rule 1."

Days in Transit to Zone Tab

This tab is pre-populated with each shipper's published transit time (from your location to other zones) for ground delivery methods.

Air delivery methods are programmed into CMS but are not included here since they have guaranteed transit times. The published ground delivery transit times are displayed here so that you can modify them, if desired, based on your personal experience or if you simply want some cushion to err on the early side rather than miss a scheduled arrival date.

You can adjust the number in the Days In Transit column as needed. For example, if UPS says a delivery by Ground Residential to Zone 4 takes four days, but you know that it often takes five, you can change the Days in Transit to 5.
